چکیده

Nowadays, a large number of methods exist for the visualization the vascular system and the arterial blood supply to various organs of the human body. Angiography techniques are used to image the bulk blood flow in the large vessels of the body like arteries and veins and allow the identification of vascular malformations and vascular alterations like stenosis or occlusions. Such diseases are quite often the cause for a compromised blood supply to organs downstream, which can be characterized by the measurement of blood volume delivered to the capillary bed of a certain amount of tissue in a given period of time (e.g. in units of ml/100g/min). This is also referred to as perfusion and directly reflects the blood flow at the capillary level where exchange of nutrients between blood and tissue occurs. Many commonly used angiography or perfusion imaging techniques rely on the administration of exogenous contrast agents and/or the use of ionizing radiation which can be harmful or even associated with a certain risk of complications. As a consequence, the demand for more patient-friendly and non-contrast enhanced imaging methods has increased.

Collateral circulation imaging: MR perfusion territory arterial spin-labeling at 3T.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Current knowledge of the collateral circulation remains sparse, and a noninvasive method to better characterize the role of collaterals is desirable. The aim of our study was to investigate the presence and distal flow of collaterals by using a new MR perfusion territory imaging, vessel-encoded arterial spin-labeling (VE-ASL). MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-six patients wi...

Whole brain cerebral flow territory mapping using vessel selective dynamic arterial spin labeling within 30 seconds

Purpose: Territory information is important in patients with large vessel disease, e.g. in acute stroke patients, to identify the source artery of emboli. A standard whole brain territory mapping sequence using vessel selective arterial spin labeling (VS-ASL) takes about 5 minutes, which is frequently considered too long for addition to clinical protocols. This long scan duration is caused by t...

Arterial spin labeling blood flow MRI: its role in the early characterization of Alzheimer's disease.

Arterial spin labeling (ASL) enables the noninvasive, quantitative imaging of cerebral blood flow using standard magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment. Because it requires no contrast injection, ASL can add resting functional information to MRI studies measuring atrophy and signs of ischemic injury. Key features of ASL technology that may affect studies in Alzheimer's disease are described...

Qualitative and quantitative myocardial perfusion with arterial spin labeling

Introduction A reduction of myocardial blood perfusion is the main physio-pathologic mechanism determining ischemic heart disease. Whilst SPECT and echocardiography are considered the reference standards for imaging perfusion defects, MRI techniques are emerging. Dynamic imaging of the first-pass of a contrast agent is currently the most frequently used of these techniques, however, guidelines ...

Arterial spin-labeling MRI can identify the presence and intensity of collateral perfusion in patients with moyamoya disease.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Determining the presence and adequacy of collateral blood flow is important in cerebrovascular disease. Therefore, we explored whether a noninvasive imaging modality, arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI, could be used to detect the presence and intensity of collateral flow using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and stable xenon CT cerebral blood flow as gold standards f...
